Wakpominee District serves youth in Warren and Washington counties as well as parts of Rensselaer, Saratoga, Essex and Hamilton counties.  The area that is now known as Wakpominee District was previously Mohican Council, headquartered in Glens Falls, NY. In 1999, Mohican Council merged with and became part of the Twin Rivers Council, Albany, NY.

Mohican Council had a long, rich history of scouting. To understand the deep and sturdy roots of Scouting in our area, we must hike a winding but familiar trail into the past.

Mohican Council was founded in 1927, but Scouting had taken hold in the region well before that - in fact, it started over 90 years ago.   A wonderful article written by Dr. Robert N. King, entitled "Seventy Five Years of Scouting (1910 - 1985)"  captures the history, spirit and growth of the scouting movement in our region. The story appeared in Glens Falls Today, Winter 1985, Vol.1, No.2.
